Engineer by Training.

Designer by Purpose.

Philosopher by Choice.

My name is Joe Rittenhouse. I am currently based in Oakland, California researching the commercialization of new technology in environmental sustainability and human health. A broad lifestyle and international travel allow me to appreciate complex, multifaceted problems as well as the ability to articulate brilliant, simple solutions.

I was raised with an engineer father and an environmentalist mother.  I grew up renovating houses in my spare time with my father and working on small scale projects to change our world with my mother. Now, with a technical background, I aspire to improve our world with passion for innovation.

My primary goal for this site is to share my story as an international researcher, designer, and engineer. I'm excited to share my work with you. Welcome!

A Little More on Me:

I am fascinated by the transition of new technology into our society. Specifically, translating novel innovations into healthy and sustainable product-market fits.

My areas of interest include:

  • The development and design of new products that are encouraged through prototyping coupled to rigorous physics simulation and mathematical models.

  • The application of novel processes inspired by nature that enable and support design.

  • Research that pushes the boundary of engineering while creating thought-provoking creations and results.

I've worked on teams with scientists, industrial designers, psychologists, financiers and more. I relish opportunities to facilitate mutual success within cross-functional teams.

I realize the global context to innovation and I am extremely open to travel due to the unique insights acquired in philosophy, science, engineering and design.
